You do not need a Fire TV Stick to watch IPTV. Several other devices can run a player app. The right choice depends on what you already own and how much you want to tinker.
Android TV and Google TV devices
These run the Android system and usually have a store with many apps. Apps that are not in the store can often be installed from a file. Many boxes and sticks use this system, and some TVs have it built in. Our Android guide covers it.
Good for: flexibility, and people who like to customise.
Apple TV
Apple TV runs apps from the App Store. Player apps are available there, and some charge their own fee. It is a simple, polished experience and the setup is straightforward.
Good for: people already in the Apple ecosystem who value a clean interface.
Smart TVs
Many Samsung, LG and other TVs let you install a player app from their own store. Choice varies by brand and model year, so check what is available for your set before buying a subscription. See the Smart TV section of the installation guide.
Good for: no extra box, one remote.
Windows and Mac
A laptop or computer works well for a desk, a spare room or a trial. You can also connect it to a TV with an HDMI cable. See the installation guide.
How to choose
- Use what you already own if it is supported. Check supported devices.
- If you are buying new, prefer a model with enough memory and a wired network option.
- Check that a player app exists for it before you pay.
