In short: How to tell whether a streaming service has the rights to the content it supplies, and why it matters to you.
Why it matters
Content is protected by copyright. A provider needs permission from rights holders to supply it. Services without that permission can be withdrawn without notice, leaving customers with nothing.
What to look for
A trustworthy provider is open about who it is and what it can supply.
- A named, registered company and a physical address.
- A clear statement of the licences it relies on.
- Plain terms, refund policy and privacy policy.
- Support you can actually contact.
- Claims that are specific rather than sweeping.
Questions to ask
Ask who holds the rights to the content you want and how the provider obtains them. If you cannot get a clear answer, think twice before paying.
